Description

Three smoke shades, each turned in a wine-glass shape, hang beneath a round polished chrome plate that sits close against the ceiling. The plate measures 40cm across, and the shallow build keeps the whole fitting tight overhead rather than dropping down into the room. The tinted shades soften the light while the chrome picks up whatever daylight the room has. It is a quiet fitting rather than a loud one, with nothing on show but the shape of the shades and the shine of the metal.

We reach for this where a pendant would hang too low: hallways and landings, a bedroom under a sloping ceiling, a small dining room where headroom is short. Light coming from more than one point spreads more evenly across a space than a single central fitting manages, which helps in a room that has to do several jobs at once. It takes E27 lamps up to 20W each, and we would fit LEDs. It can be dimmed if you pair suitable lamps with a compatible dimmer, bought separately, which makes it as workable over a table in the evening as it is on a landing first thing.

The shades are smoke, the frame and ceiling plate polished chrome, and the two together keep the fitting looking lighter than its width suggests. Dust it with a dry cloth once the power is off and the shades have cooled, and if fingermarks show on the chrome, put a little cleaner on the cloth rather than spraying it at the fitting. It carries a one year warranty.
