Description

Three clear shades, slim and gently curved into a trapezium, sit beneath a round plate held tight against the ceiling. At 40cm across it reads as one fitting rather than as three separate lights, and because the shades are clear the lamps inside become part of the look rather than something to hide away. The polished chrome stays bright against a white ceiling, and the fitting is shallow enough to go almost unnoticed until it is switched on.

We reach for this in rooms where a pendant would hang too low: hallways and landings, a kitchen with a modest ceiling height, a loft bedroom, or above the turn of a stairwell where anything longer would be in the way. It takes E27 lamps, and with suitable lamps and a dimmer in the circuit the level can be brought down for the evening. Since the shades conceal nothing, we would choose a decorative LED lamp with a shape worth looking at. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; a shower room or an open porch is not its place.

The plate and lamp holders are finished in polished chrome, a mirror-bright surface that picks up whatever else is shiny in the room, from tapware to a mirror frame. Dust the shades with a dry microfibre cloth once the lamps have cooled, and take fingermarks off the chrome with a cloth wrung out almost dry, then buff so no streaks are left behind. It carries a one year warranty. The same slim trapezium shade appears on smaller single light versions of the Lori range, in polished chrome or antique gold, and the range also runs to globe, wine and dimple shades if you want something rounder elsewhere in the house.
