Rising to a maximum height of 154cm and stretching to an 85.6cm diameter, our Long version of this ceiling light gives you real presence overhead, and we think that generous scale is exactly what a dining table or open stairwell asks for. The minimum height sits at 99cm, so there is enough adjustment built in to suit lower ceilings as well as taller rooms. At 9.5kg, it has a reassuring weight to it, yet we have kept assembly straightforward, with everything coming together in around 20 minutes.

Five upright glass tubes sit on curved arms that rise from a central stem, each one holding its own GU10 light source so the glow spreads evenly across the room rather than pooling in a single spot. We supply this ceiling light in polished steel, a bright finish that catches daylight during the day and reflects the warmth of the bulbs come evening. It takes 5 × GU10 lamps at a maximum of 15W LED per light source, which are not included, and it is compatible with the Focused Idea bulbs if you would like to pair them, also sold separately. This lets you choose the exact brightness and tone that works for your space.

Made from steel, glass and PMMA, the design balances the sturdiness of the metal stem with the clarity of the glass tubes above. The polished steel needs little upkeep beyond an occasional wipe with a soft, dry cloth to keep it looking crisp, and we would avoid harsh cleaners that might dull the surface. If you are styling a modern kitchen or a hallway with clean lines, we find the vertical arrangement of tubes works beautifully with pale walls and pared back furniture. Hang it centrally over a table and let those five points of light do the work.
