Description

This Victorian Christmas shop lantern brings a snowy street scene to the festive season, with brick walls and icicle-hung eaves in warm brown and white. Father Christmas stands at the door with a sack of presents at his feet, a puppy sits beside a pile of parcels, and little decorated trees, an old-fashioned lamp post and window boxes tied with red bows fill the front. Garlands of holly and berries arch over the windows, and a brick chimney rises at one side of the gabled roof. The front curves gently, so the lantern stands upright by itself, and it measures 16.2cm tall, 13.5cm wide and 5cm deep.

Switch it on and the LED lights the windows a warm yellow, while tiny pierced points across the roof and walls catch the light like falling snow. At just 5cm deep it settles easily on a mantelpiece, a windowsill, a bookcase or a hall table, and it adds a cheerful glow to a bedside table through December. It is for dry rooms indoors, where it brings a little Victorian Christmas charm to a living room, a bedroom or a hallway. As a Christmas gift it suits anyone who loves traditional festive decorations.

The lantern runs on two AA batteries, which are not included, so keep a pair to hand for the day you unpack it. Running on batteries, it needs no socket nearby, so you can set it wherever it looks best. To keep it looking fresh, dust it gently with a soft dry cloth, keep it away from damp, and take the batteries out when you pack it away after the season. We like it on its own at the centre of a mantelpiece, or set among greenery and pine cones as the heart of a little winter village scene, and it makes a thoughtful Christmas present tucked under the tree.
