Larkbury Uplighter Tiffany Floor Lamp - Black

The Larkbury uplighter floor lamp stands 1755mm tall with a 400mm shade of Tiffany-style leaded glass facing upwards, so the light lifts off the ceiling and comes back into the room without any glare at eye level. The multicoloured glass is cut piece by piece and joined with soldered seams over a metal frame, and the colours read strongly from below when the lamp is lit. One E27 GLS bulb of up to 60W is needed and is supplied separately. At 6.2kg this floor light has the weight a tall stem needs.

An uplighter earns its place in a room with a light coloured ceiling and not much natural light: behind a sofa, in the corner of a sitting room, at the turn of a landing or beside a piano. Because the shade faces up it does not shine into anyone's eyes across the room, which is why we would choose it over a downward floor lamp where seating faces inwards. The traditional glass suits period interiors, and it gives a plain modern room a warm, coloured source of light rather than another white shade.

The lamp is a Class 2 fitting, double insulated. It is not listed as dimmable, so plan on standard switching and choose a warmer, lower output bulb if you want a gentler light. An upward facing shade will collect dust, so brush it out or wipe it round every few months, using a barely damp cloth on marks and drying at once, and keeping solvents and abrasive creams away from the solder lines.
