Description
This wood effect wall plaque carries two detailed illustrations of the Lancaster bomber, one from overhead and one in profile. Both are in brown camouflage with roundels on the wings and fuselage. Beneath them the word LANCASTER is printed in bold dark letters, followed by a neat panel of the aircraft's facts. The panel gives its manufacturer, engine type, designer and crew of seven, a wingspan of 31.09 metres and a top speed of 282 mph. It also gives a first flight on 9 January 1941, its introduction in February 1942 and its retirement in 1964 in Canada. The board is A3 in size, 42cm tall, 30cm wide and 2cm deep, with a pale brown woodgrain behind the print.
It is a plaque for a wall that tells a story: a study, a hallway, a reading corner or a den where aviation books and models already live. The bold name reads clearly across a room without crowding a smaller wall. The upright shape suits the space beside a bookcase or over a desk. We think it makes a thoughtful retirement gift. It is also a fine choice for dads and grandfathers who love the history of flight and will happily talk you through every figure on the panel.
The plaque is a flat, rectangular wooden board. A sawtooth hanger is fixed at the top centre of the back, so it hangs from a single picture hook or nail and sits close to the wall. The back is plain, with the natural grain left on show. To keep the print crisp, dust it now and then with a soft dry cloth and hang it away from damp and direct heat. For a retirement send-off, wrap it flat with a card and let the Lancaster do the talking.
