Description

The Knightsbridge OS004 is a 180° PIR motion sensor with a 12m detection range when mounted at 2.4m height, designed to trigger lighting or connected devices when movement is detected. The sensor head sits on an adjustable ball joint allowing the detection zone to be angled towards doorways, pathways or specific coverage areas after installation.

Suited to security lighting, energy-saving automation in hallways and landings, and outdoor covered areas such as porches and carports, the sensor carries an IP44 rating protecting against solid objects over 1mm and water splashes from any direction. The unit mounts to either wall or ceiling surfaces using the rear fixing plate, and can be wired in parallel with additional sensors to cover larger or L-shaped areas from a single lighting circuit.

Two adjustment dials on the underside control time delay (10 seconds to 8 minutes) and lux threshold (daylight override). The time delay sets how long the connected load remains powered after the last detected movement, while the lux dial prevents activation in daylight when natural light is sufficient. Maximum switching capacity is 1200W for incandescent loads or 300W for LED, handling typical domestic and light commercial installations without requiring a separate contactor.

The white polycarbonate housing measures 86mm wide by 82mm tall with 100mm projection from the mounting surface once installed. Class II double-insulated construction means no earth connection is required, simplifying wiring in older properties or where earthing is poor. The sensor is certified to EN 60669-2-1, EN 60669-1, EN 55015, EN 61547 and EN 61000 standards covering electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility.

Frequently Asked

What height should the sensor be mounted at?

The 12m detection range specification assumes mounting at 2.4m height. Mounting lower reduces range slightly but can improve detection of smaller movements close to the sensor. Mounting higher extends range but may miss low-level movement directly beneath the unit.

Can the sensor be used outdoors?

The IP44 rating protects against water splashes, making it suitable for covered outdoor locations such as porches, carports and eaves-protected wall positions. It is not rated for fully exposed outdoor use in driving rain.

How is the time delay adjusted?

A dial on the underside of the sensor adjusts the time delay from 10 seconds to 8 minutes. This sets how long the connected lighting remains on after the last detected movement before switching off.

What does the lux adjustment do?

The lux dial sets the ambient light threshold below which the sensor will activate. Turned fully anti-clockwise, the sensor operates only in darkness. Turned clockwise, it will activate in progressively brighter ambient light, up to full daylight operation when set to maximum.
