Description

The Knightsbridge SN400M is a replacement leading edge dimmer module rated for 40-400W incandescent loads or 3-100W LED loads, housed in a compact 52mm x 26mm x 44mm black polycarbonate enclosure. The module uses leading edge phase-cut dimming technology and provides push on/off control through the front plate, with the dimming level set by rotating the control knob on the faceplate it sits behind.

Designed as a retrofit or replacement module for existing Knightsbridge dimmer installations, the SN400M fits behind standard UK dimmer faceplates and requires a minimum 35mm back box depth for safe installation. The offset terminal position allows wiring in tight back boxes where central terminals would clash with adjacent devices. The module supports two-way switching, meaning it can be controlled from two separate switch positions when wired with an intermediate switch.

The leading edge dimming method works reliably with traditional incandescent and halogen bulbs across the full 40-400W range, but LED compatibility depends on the specific LED driver design. Most dimmable LED bulbs rated between 3-100W will function with this module, but some manufacturers' LEDs may flicker, hum, or fail to dim smoothly depending on their internal driver circuitry. Knightsbridge recommends testing compatibility with your specific LED bulb before final installation. The module carries BS EN 60669-2 certification and an IP20 rating for dry indoor installation only.

Frequently Asked

Will this work with my LED bulbs?

The module is rated for 3-100W dimmable LED loads, but compatibility depends on the LED bulb's internal driver. Some LEDs will dim smoothly, while others may flicker or hum. Knightsbridge recommends checking with your LED bulb manufacturer before installation, or testing the module with your specific bulbs before committing to a full installation.

What does leading edge dimming mean?

Leading edge dimming cuts the front edge of the AC waveform to reduce power to the bulb. It works reliably with incandescent and halogen loads, and with many older-style dimmable LED drivers. Modern LEDs often prefer trailing edge dimming, so check your bulb specifications.

Can this be used in a two-way switching setup?

Yes. The module supports two-way switching, allowing control from two separate switch positions when wired with an intermediate switch. The dimming function is controlled from the primary dimmer location only.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 35mm back box depth is needed for safe installation. The module itself is 44mm deep, with 27mm recessing into the back box and 18mm projecting from the wall once the faceplate is fitted.
