Description

The Klampenborg is a 318mm outdoor pedestal light built from 304-grade stainless steel with a silver powder-coated finish. The design centres on a cylindrical pillar supporting a wide flat shade above a clear glass cylinder that houses a single E27 bulb (sold separately). The IP44 rating protects the fitting against rain and splashing from any direction, making it suitable for year-round outdoor use.

Designed for pathway lighting, driveway edges, garden borders and patio perimeters, the Klampenborg provides ground-level illumination at approximately knee height. The 275mm diameter shade directs light downwards and outwards in a wide pool, while the clear glass allows visibility of decorative filament bulbs. The pillar base fixes to paving, gravel or decking via two mounting points on a circular foot plate.

The 304-grade stainless steel construction resists corrosion in coastal and weather-exposed locations where standard painted steel would degrade. The silver powder coating adds a protective layer over the steel and provides a neutral metallic finish that pairs with both modern minimalist schemes and traditional garden lighting arrangements. The combined metal and glass weight gives the fitting a stable presence without requiring ballasting. Elstead Lighting backs the Klampenborg with a 15-year warranty covering material and manufacturing defects.

Frequently Asked

What does the IP44 rating mean for outdoor use?

IP44 protects the fitting against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashing from any direction. This makes the Klampenborg suitable for uncovered outdoor locations including pathways, driveways and gardens exposed to rain, but not for areas subject to high-pressure water jets or submersion.

What bulb should I use?

The fitting takes a standard E27 bulb up to 60W, sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K for pathway lighting, or a decorative clear-glass filament LED to show through the clear cylinder. Ensure any bulb used is rated for outdoor or enclosed fixture use.

How is it installed?

The circular foot plate has two fixing points for screwing or bolting to paving, decking or a concrete base. The electrical connection runs through the base of the pillar and requires a suitable outdoor-rated cable buried or ducted to the installation point. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Will the stainless steel corrode in coastal areas?

304-grade stainless steel is corrosion-resistant and performs well in coastal environments. The silver powder coating adds an extra protective layer. While no outdoor metal is entirely maintenance-free in harsh coastal exposure, the Klampenborg is significantly more durable than mild steel or aluminium alternatives.
