Description

Kelso Check is a traditional rug in warm beige, laid out in a classic check of dark and pale grey stripes with fine cream lines that cross to form large, even squares. It is machine woven from 100% polypropylene, and the pile is then cut by hand along the lines of the check, so the beige squares sit slightly proud of the stripes. That gives the design real depth, and where the colours meet the stripes take on a fine twill look.

It is a natural fit for a living room, where its neutral tones sit happily with light wood floors and grey or cream furnishings. We sell it in three sizes: 80 by 150cm for a bedside or reading corner; 120 by 170cm to sit under a coffee table; and 160 by 230cm, large enough to go under the front of a sofa or at the foot of a bed. Its country house check suits a traditional room and warms a plainer, modern one.

Because the check is cut into the pile by hand, it reads in relief as well as in colour, and you can feel the squares stand a little higher than the stripes. Polypropylene is a man-made fibre, and the mix of beige and grey is an easy one to live with. It is an indoor rug. Before you choose a size, measure your space and mark it out on the floor with masking tape, leaving a strip of floor showing around the edges.
