Description

The Joan is a 635mm table lamp built around a matte white hourglass-shaped shade with small perforations along the metal body, set on a burnished brass stem and circular base. The lamp takes a single E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately), which illuminates the inside of the shade and casts small pinpoints of light through the perforations onto nearby surfaces.

Designed for bedside tables, desks and console surfaces where directed task light is needed without ceiling fittings, the Joan suits modern and mid-century interiors where geometric forms and metal finishes dominate. The 178mm width keeps the lamp compact enough for a typical 500-600mm bedside table without crowding alarm clocks or books. The curved brass arm positions the shade at an angle, directing light downward onto a reading surface or across a tabletop rather than straight up.

The burnished brass finish is a satin-toned warm gold, softer than polished brass but warmer than brushed brass, and develops a subtle patina over time when handled. The matte white powder-coated shade contrasts with the metal without creating harsh reflections. At 635mm tall the lamp sits level with the typical mattress height of a low modern bed frame, making it suitable for reading in bed when paired with a 6-10W LED bulb between 2700K and 3000K.

What bulb does the Joan take?

The lamp takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a 6-10W warm-white LED (2700K-3000K) for bedside reading or a lower-wattage bulb for ambient lighting on a console.

Does the shade get hot?

The metal shade will warm when the lamp is on, particularly with higher-wattage halogen or incandescent bulbs. Using a lower-wattage LED bulb reduces heat buildup and keeps the shade cooler to the touch.

What surface does the lamp suit?

The 178mm-wide base suits bedside tables, desks and console surfaces at least 400mm wide. The 219mm projection means the shade overhangs the base slightly, so allow clearance at the back edge of the surface for the arm.

Can the shade angle be adjusted?

No. The shade is fixed at an angle on the brass arm and does not tilt or rotate once assembled. The lamp directs light downward and forward from the shade opening.
