Description
The Janarne is a solar ball spike light: a white plastic globe sitting on a black plastic collar, with a slim black spike that pushes into a lawn or flower border. It stands 50cm tall and the globe is 25cm across, large enough to read as a soft moon of light among the planting rather than a pinprick. The light source is an integrated solar LED of 0.2W, giving a warm 3000K glow through the opal shade. It is rated IP44, which means it is protected from splashing water, so it lives happily outdoors in the garden.
Because there is no cable to run, you can set it wherever the glow is wanted: beside a path, at the edge of a lawn, among ornamental grasses or next to a patio seat. The panel charges from daylight, and as general guidance it does best in an open, sunny spot. It suits anyone who wants gentle light in the garden after dark without digging trenches or planning a mains supply, and because the globe glows all round, it looks just as good from the house as from the path.
The body and shade are both plastic, so the light is easy to lift and move as the planting changes through the seasons; packed, it weighs 0.654KG. An on/off switch lets you keep it dark on the nights you prefer. It gives a run time of 6 to 8 hours and takes an AAA NiMH battery of 600mAh. The LED is built in and not replaceable, so there is no bulb to buy or change. The installation instructions come as a download, worth keeping handy for the first evening the globe is lit.
