Description
The Knightsbridge OS021 is an IP65-rated microwave motion sensor built into a white polycarbonate housing with a pre-wired 0.5m cable for direct integration with LED battens and commercial lighting fixtures. The sensor detects movement using microwave frequency rather than passive infrared, giving it the ability to see through non-metallic materials and detect motion through lightweight panels, suspended ceilings and certain wall constructions.
Designed for commercial warehouse lighting, loading bays, covered outdoor walkways, and stairwells where automatic switching is needed, the sensor fits standard 20mm conduit entry points found on most commercial LED battens. The detection range extends 4-6m at a typical mounting height of 3m, with adjustable sensitivity allowing the installer to tune the sensor to ignore small movements (rodents, wind-blown debris) while still triggering on human presence. The adjustable lux setting prevents the sensor from activating during daylight hours, and the adjustable time delay controls how long the light stays on after the last detected movement.
The IP65 rating provides protection against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets, making the sensor suitable for both internal installation in dusty or damp environments and external installation under soffits, canopies or covered loading areas where direct rain exposure is avoided. The polycarbonate housing withstands typical industrial knocks and resists UV degradation. The sensor handles LED loads up to 400W on 230V mains and is Class II double-insulated, requiring no earth connection.

Frequently Asked
How does microwave sensing differ from PIR?
Microwave sensors emit a low-power radio frequency and detect changes in the reflected signal caused by movement. Unlike passive infrared (PIR) sensors, microwave sensors can see through lightweight non-metallic materials like suspended ceiling tiles, thin plasterboard and plastic panels. This makes them useful in installations where the sensor needs to be concealed or where detection through a barrier is required.
What are the adjustable settings?
The sensor has three adjustable controls: lux (light level threshold), time delay (how long the light stays on after the last movement), and sensitivity (detection range). These are adjusted via small dials or potentiometers on the sensor body. See the Product Manual in the Downloads tab for the adjustment ranges and recommended settings.
Can it be used outdoors?
Yes, but with limitations. The IP65 rating protects against dust and low-pressure water jets, making the sensor suitable for covered outdoor areas like soffits, canopies and loading bays. It should not be installed in positions exposed to direct rainfall, standing water or water spray from cleaning equipment.
Is it compatible with dimmers?
No. The sensor is non-dimmable and switches the load on/off only. It is not compatible with dimming systems or phase-control dimmers.
