Description
The Knightsbridge OS006 is an IP55-rated photocell switch that automatically turns connected lighting on at dusk and off at dawn, or after a pre-set duration. The unit measures 105mm high by 79mm wide by 36mm deep and mounts onto an exterior wall via four screw fixings through the white polycarbonate housing.
Designed for outdoor lighting automation, the OS006 suits security lighting, garden path lights, driveway illumination, and commercial applications such as shop window displays or advertising signage that need to activate at nightfall. The photocell detects ambient light levels and switches the output accordingly, removing the need for manual timers or switches indoors. The switching capacity handles up to 1000W incandescent, 500W fluorescent or inductive loads, or 200W LED.
The unit includes an ambient light memory function that learns the typical light threshold for dusk in its installed location, and offers four pre-set duration options: 2, 4, 6 or 8 hours. This allows the lighting to turn off mid-evening rather than staying on until dawn, saving energy where full all-night operation is not needed. The IP55 rating protects against low-pressure water jets and dust ingress, making the switch suitable for exposed outdoor installation under eaves or on external walls.

Frequently Asked
How is the ambient light memory function set?
The unit learns the typical dusk light level at its installed location automatically over the first few days of operation. Once set, it uses this threshold to trigger the switch-on event each evening when ambient light falls below the learned level.
What loads can the photocell switch control?
The switching capacity is rated for a maximum of 1000W incandescent, 500W fluorescent or inductive loads, or 200W LED. Do not exceed these ratings as it may damage the internal relay or create a fire hazard.
Can the switch be used indoors?
Yes, though it is designed for outdoor use. The photocell needs exposure to natural daylight to function correctly, so indoor use is limited to areas with direct window light or shopfront glass where day/night cycles are clearly detectable.
What are the duration settings for?
The 2, 4, 6 and 8-hour duration options allow the connected lighting to turn off mid-evening rather than staying on until dawn. This is useful where security lighting only needs to operate during peak evening hours, reducing energy consumption and bulb wear.
