Description

Small, plain and quietly useful: a brass cylinder 225mm tall and 90mm across that sits on the floor or a shelf and sends its light straight up the wall. It takes a GU10 lamp of up to 50W, with a 50mm LED reflector the obvious choice, and there is an inline switch on the flex so you can work it with a foot rather than crossing the room to the socket. Dimming is possible where both the lamp and the dimmer are suited to it.

We reach for these where a conventional table lamp would crowd the surface it stands on. Tucked behind a sofa, in the corner of a bedroom, at the foot of a tall plant so the leaves throw shadows across the ceiling, or in an alcove beside a chimney breast, it gives a soft pool of light at low level that takes the flatness out of a room after dark. Set more than one along a long wall and the effect builds. It suits renters and anyone wanting an extra layer of light with nothing more to do than plug it in.

The finish is antique brass, warm and slightly darkened rather than bright, and the build is double insulated. A dry cloth over the metal when you dust the shelf is all the upkeep it asks for, and unplug it before changing the lamp, once everything has gone cold. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; it is not made for a bathroom or a covered porch. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included, so add one to your order if you have none spare.
