Description

The Hoop Medium Round is an 85mm surface-mount downlight with a matt black aluminium cylinder body and a gold-toned metal interior ring. The fitting takes a GX53 15W bulb (sold separately) behind a flat plastic diffuser, casting downward task or accent light from ceiling heights where recessed fittings cannot be installed.

Designed for rooms with solid ceilings, shallow voids or concrete soffits where recessed downlights are not practical, the Hoop mounts directly to the ceiling surface with a 96mm projection. The compact 85mm diameter suits hallways, alcoves, wardrobes, cloakrooms and low-ceiling bedrooms where a discrete ceiling-mounted light source is needed without major structural work. The GX53 bulb base is a low-profile format common in European surface-mount fittings, allowing the overall height to stay under 100mm.

The gold-toned interior reflects the bulb light back through the diffuser, warming the output slightly compared to a white or silver reflector. The matt black exterior absorbs ambient light and reduces visual clutter on darker ceilings. The IP20 rating limits the fitting to dry indoor locations — it is not suitable for bathrooms, kitchens near hobs or outdoor canopies. The aluminium and plastic construction keeps the weight low enough for plasterboard ceilings with appropriate fixings.

No. The Hoop takes a GX53 bulb up to 15W, sold separately. GX53 bulbs are widely available in LED format, typically offering 2700K-4000K colour temperatures and 800-1200 lumen output.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

No. The IP20 rating means the fitting is not protected against moisture. It is suitable for dry indoor rooms only — hallways, bedrooms, living rooms, wardrobes. Bathrooms require IP44 or higher.

What ceiling type does it suit?

Surface-mount downlights like the Hoop are designed for solid ceilings, shallow ceiling voids or concrete soffits where recessed downlights cannot be installed. The fitting screws directly to the ceiling surface.
