Holborn 2 Light Outdoor Flush Ceiling Light - Polished Chrome IP44

The Holborn is a 300mm square flush ceiling light built from solid brass with a polished chrome finish, designed for covered outdoor locations requiring IP44 protection. Four clear bevelled glass panels form a box around two E27 bulb holders (bulbs sold separately, maximum 60W each), allowing light to project downwards and outwards through all sides of the fitting.

Designed for porches, covered terraces, covered entrance canopies and other outdoor areas with ceiling mounting, the Holborn provides ambient downlight while the bevelled glass panels create decorative light patterns on adjacent walls and floors. The IP44 rating protects the internal components against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for locations exposed to rain-driven spray but not direct water jets or submersion. The 165mm height requires a minimum ceiling clearance for fitting the backplate and making cable connections.

The polished chrome finish on the solid brass frame gives a high-sheen reflective surface that pairs with both traditional Georgian-style homes and contemporary properties using metallic accent finishes. The vertical ribbed detailing on the upper and lower frame sections adds texture to what would otherwise be a plain metal box. Each of the four glass panels is bevelled at the edges, creating prism effects when the bulbs are lit and adding a decorative edge detail when viewed from below during daylight.

What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?

IP44 protects against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashes from any direction. The Holborn is suitable for covered outdoor areas like porches and covered terraces where it is sheltered from direct downpours but may be exposed to rain-driven spray. It is not suitable for fully exposed locations or areas subject to water jets.

What bulbs does it take?

The Holborn takes two E27 (Edison screw) bulbs up to 60W each, sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED bulbs between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for outdoor ambient lighting that complements the chrome and glass.

Can it be fitted to a standard ceiling rose?

Yes, provided the ceiling rose is rated for outdoor use and the location is covered. The fitting requires a backplate fixing to the ceiling with cable connections made inside the 165mm-high housing before the glass panels and frame are assembled around the bulb holders.

How is the glass cleaned?

The bevelled glass panels can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth and standard glass cleaner once the power is isolated. The panels are removable for more thorough cleaning, though this requires partially disassembling the frame from the backplate.
