Holborn 2 Light Outdoor Flush Ceiling Light - Brushed Brass

The Holborn is a 300mm square outdoor flush ceiling light in brushed brass with four bevelled glass panels and a railed top section inspired by Georgian lantern design. The fitting houses two E27 bulbs (sold separately) inside the glass enclosure, protected by an IP44 rating that allows installation on covered porches, verandas, entrance canopies and sheltered outdoor areas exposed to rain splash and dust.

Designed for period homes, country cottages and contemporary builds where a traditional aesthetic is required, the Holborn mounts directly to a ceiling rose with a 165mm drop below the mounting point. The four clear bevelled glass panels allow light to spread in all directions while the railed brass sections above the glass provide visual weight and a finished edge detail. The square footprint suits porch ceilings between 1.2m and 2m wide, where a circular flush fitting would look under-scaled.

The solid brass construction is finished in a brushed surface that softens reflections and develops a natural patina over time when exposed to outdoor conditions. The four ball feet at the base corners add a classical detail consistent with Georgian and Regency outdoor lighting. The bevelled edges on each glass panel refract light into the bevel cut, creating a subtle decorative effect when the bulbs are lit. Bulbs up to 60W per socket are supported, allowing the fitting to function as primary entrance lighting rather than just decorative accent.

What does IP44 mean for outdoor installation?

IP44 provides protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashes from any direction. This rating suits sheltered outdoor areas such as covered porches, canopies and verandas where the fitting is not directly exposed to driving rain or submersion. The Holborn is not suitable for fully exposed, uncovered outdoor positions.

What bulbs are recommended?

The fitting takes two E27 (Edison screw) bulbs up to 60W each. For outdoor use where the light is frequently on, a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K provides good illumination without excessive running costs. Filament-style LED bulbs suit the Georgian aesthetic when viewed through the clear glass.

Does the brushed brass tarnish outdoors?

Solid brass develops a natural patina over time when exposed to outdoor conditions. The brushed finish softens this process compared to polished brass. Some users prefer the aged patina; others periodically clean the brass with a brass polish to restore the original tone. The structural integrity of the fitting is unaffected by patina.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 165mm drop suits most standard porch ceilings. Low porch ceilings below 2.2m may find the fitting intrudes into headroom depending on door height and typical user height. Measure the available clearance from ceiling to door threshold before ordering.
