Description

The Holborn is a 310mm outdoor wall lantern built from solid brass with a verdigris finish that mimics the natural patina of weathered copper. A single E14 bulb (sold separately) sits inside clear glass panels set within a Georgian-style frame with vertical slat detailing across the top section. The IP44 rating protects against water splashes and dust ingress, making the fitting suitable for covered porches, doorways and garden walls with overhead shelter.

Designed for period properties and homes where a traditional exterior aesthetic is required, the lantern works mounted either side of a front door, alongside a porch, or on exterior walls facing a courtyard or garden path. The 130mm width and projection keep the fitting compact enough for narrow hallways and tight doorways without overwhelming the architecture. The clear glass panels allow the bulb to project light outward while the brass frame casts shadow patterns from the slat detailing.

The verdigris finish is applied to solid brass, giving the lantern the blue-green tones of naturally aged copper. This finish works particularly well on brick, stone and painted render in heritage green, cream or white. The brass construction provides weight and rigidity against wind movement, and the finish develops further character over time as exposure to weather continues the patination process. The IP44 rating protects against water splashes and dust, which suits covered porches, doorways and walls with overhead shelter. Fully exposed positions without any roof overhang or porch cover may require an IP65 rated fitting.

What bulb does it take?

The lantern takes a single E14 small Edison screw bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit a warm-white LED candle bulb between 4-6W and 2700K for traditional outdoor lighting.

Does the verdigris finish change over time?

Yes. The verdigris finish is applied to solid brass, and exposure to weather will continue the patination process, deepening the blue-green tones and adding further texture. This is a feature of the finish rather than degradation.

How is it mounted?

The lantern mounts directly onto an exterior wall via a brass back plate. Standard wall mounting fixings are included. The cable entry point is behind the back plate, so exterior cable routing or through-wall cabling is required during installation.
