Description

The Hive is a floor lamp built around a single matt black metal column with a 400mm diameter tapered fabric shade. The shade consists of a gold PVC inner sheet wrapped in black fabric, creating a dual-tone effect where the exterior remains dark while the interior reflects warm metallic light from a single E27 bulb (sold separately).

Designed for reading positions next to armchairs, bedside use, and corners of living rooms where ambient light is needed without ceiling fittings, the Hive provides downward and outward light through the fabric diffuser. The gold interior reflects and warms the light output, shifting the colour temperature slightly warmer than the bulb's native rating. The lamp stands on a weighted circular base that provides stability on carpet and hard floors without needing wall support.

The matt black finish on the metal frame and the black fabric exterior suit contemporary, industrial and dark-toned interiors. The gold interior adds warmth without being visible when the lamp is off, so the piece reads as a simple black column until lit. The fabric shade softens the light and prevents glare at eye level when standing next to the lamp. The E27 fitting accepts LED, halogen or filament bulbs up to the manufacturer's rated wattage, giving control over brightness and colour temperature.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does the Hive take?

The lamp takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-12W and 2700K-3000K for ambient or reading light. The gold interior warms the light slightly, so a neutral or cool bulb may still read warm when lit.

Is it dimmable?

The lamp itself is not dimmable-rated according to the specification. Dimming depends on the bulb you fit — an E27 LED bulb rated as dimmable will work with a compatible dimmer switch, but the lamp's wiring and switch are not designed for dimming.

What's the IP rating and where can it be used?

The Hive carries an IP20 rating, which means it's suitable for dry indoor use only. It should not be used in bathrooms, outdoor areas, or anywhere exposed to moisture or condensation.

What height is the lamp?

The specification table does not list the overall height. Based on typical floor lamp proportions and the 400mm shade diameter, the lamp likely stands around 1500-1600mm tall, but please contact us to confirm the exact height before ordering if this is critical to your installation.
