Description
The Hereford is a 340mm outdoor pedestal lantern with a black die-cast aluminium frame, clear glass panels and decorative scroll ironwork on all four sides. A pagoda-style top cap with a turned finial sits above the lantern housing, which holds a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately). The lantern mounts on a square pedestal base with pre-drilled fixing points for bolting to a gate pier, wall cap or low garden wall.
Designed for gate posts, driveway piers and front garden walls, the Hereford provides downward illumination through clear glass rather than diffused ambient light. The scroll ironwork casts secondary shadow patterns when lit, adding decorative interest to paths and paved areas. The IP23 rating protects against solid objects above 12.5mm and rain at an angle up to 60° from vertical, making the lantern suitable for sheltered positions under eaves, porches or wall overhangs rather than fully exposed locations.
The die-cast aluminium construction gives the fitting a solid 1.8kg weight without the rust vulnerability of wrought iron. The black powder-coat finish shows minimal weathering over time and pairs with traditional brick, stone and painted render facades. The clear glass panels require occasional cleaning to maintain brightness — a standard glass cleaner removes pollen, dust and rain marks. The 60W maximum rating accommodates LED, halogen or decorative filament bulbs, with most installations using a warm-white LED between 6-10W for energy efficiency.

Frequently Asked
What IP rating does the Hereford carry and where can it be used?
The IP23 rating protects against solid objects above 12.5mm and rain at angles up to 60° from vertical. This makes the lantern suitable for sheltered outdoor positions under eaves, porches, covered gate posts or wall overhangs, but not for fully exposed locations where driving rain hits from all angles.
What bulb does it take?
The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for energy-efficient outdoor lighting.
How is it mounted?
The lantern sits on a square pedestal base with pre-drilled fixing holes for bolting to a gate pier, wall cap or low garden wall. Electrical cable feeds up through the mounting surface or is surface-run along the wall to the base.
Is the glass clear or frosted?
The glass panels are clear, providing bright direct illumination rather than diffused ambient light. The scroll ironwork casts decorative shadow patterns when the lantern is lit.
