Description
This metal epoxy decoration takes the form of the Leaky Cauldron's pub sign, with a gold cauldron at its centre and two curls of cream steam rising from the brim. Gold lettering reads The Leaky Cauldron across the pot, with Public House split either side and Diagon Alley, London on a scroll beneath, all set against a glossy black ground. The plaque is rectangular with neatly cut-in corners and a raised gold rim, and the back is finished in gold. A deep red ribbon printed with Harry Potter in gold loops from the top. It measures 18cm in height, 6.5cm across and 0.3cm deep, so it hangs flat on a branch.
We see it first on the Christmas tree, where the black and gold picks up the glow of fairy lights and shows up clearly against green branches. It works as well away from the tree, hung from a wreath, a garland along the mantelpiece, a cabinet knob or the corner of a bookshelf, and you may well leave it up long after the rest of the decorations are packed away. As a Christmas gift it slips easily into a stocking, and the pub sign design makes it a fun one to unwrap before the tree goes up.
The plaque is metal, with the black ground and the cream steam filled in epoxy for a smooth, glossy face, while the gold lines of the cauldron and lettering stand proud of it. To care for it, dust it with a soft dry cloth, or wipe away any marks with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight after. Between seasons, wrap it in tissue and store it flat in a box so the ribbon stays uncreased and the rim free of scratches. For a gift with a little extra, tie it to the outside of a wrapped present as a tag that goes straight onto the tree.
