Description
This cheerful stoneware mug takes the shape of a little cauldron, round-bellied and standing on three short feet, with the Hufflepuff house crest from Harry Potter on the front. The crest is a yellow shield with a ribbon bearing the word Hufflepuff above a grey and cream badger, drawn in a hand-sketched style with dark brown outlines. Turn it round and the back carries a pale blue and grey drawing of a turreted castle on a rocky outcrop. The glaze is a glossy golden yellow outside, with a white interior, and a rounded handle sits on one side. It measures about 10cm tall, 12cm wide and 9cm deep, and holds 400ml, a generous measure of tea or coffee.
It earns its place in the kitchen for the first cup of the morning, and just as well on a study desk or a bedroom shelf beside a pile of well-thumbed books. The cauldron shape and the badger crest make it as good to look at as it is to drink from, so it suits everyday use and display alike. When the school term comes round it makes a fun back to school gift, and it is just as welcome at Christmas, wrapped under the tree or tucked into a stocking with a bag of hot chocolate or a favourite tea.
The mug is made from stoneware, a sturdy kind of ceramic, with a smooth glossy glaze over the yellow body and the crest and castle drawings. Its three short feet hold it level on a table, tray or desk, and the rounded handle gives a comfortable grip for a hot drink. As general good practice for glazed stoneware, we suggest washing it by hand in warm soapy water and drying it with a soft cloth. For gifting, fill it with sweets or a few tea bags, add a handwritten tag, and it is ready to give.
