Description
This handpainted sunflower vase brings a burst of summer colour to a shelf or table. Three sunflowers rise up the front of its ceramic body in raised relief, two larger blooms with a smaller one between them, each with sunny yellow petals, a textured brown centre and a long green stem, and a single leaf curls from the tallest. The white glaze is left plain around the back, so the flowers have the front to themselves. It has a gently rounded shoulder, a softly rolled rim and a flat base, and stands about 16cm tall and 15cm across.
Compact enough to sit on a kitchen table, a windowsill, a bedside table or a mantelpiece, it holds a small bunch of flowers or a few stems in its wide neck. Left empty, the raised sunflowers make it a decorative piece in its own right, bringing a cheerful country note to a room in every season. It makes a thoughtful Mother's Day gift, and a lovely present for a friend who loves sunflowers, bright colour or a sunny kitchen.
The vase is made from ceramic with a glossy glaze, and its sunflowers are painted by hand, so the soft shading across the petals and leaves gives each piece a little character of its own. The raised flowers stand proud of the surface, so take a little care around them when cleaning. As general good practice, dust it with a soft dry cloth, or wipe it with a damp cloth and dry it well. For a gift, we like to hand it over with a few bright yellow blooms already inside, so it is ready to brighten a room straight away.
