Description
This hand-painted ceramic vase carries a plump orange crab across its rounded body, its claws tipped in dark brown and its shell raised and textured so you can feel it under your fingertips. The vase itself is a soft periwinkle blue under a glossy glaze, and its shape has plenty of character: a ribbed, gently lobed body, a tall fluted neck banded with pale stripes and a scalloped rim at the top. A deep blue band circles the flared foot and picks up the coastal mood of the crab. It stands 28.7cm tall, 19.4cm across and 19.2cm deep, so it holds its own on a surface without crowding it.
We think it suits any room that welcomes a little seaside cheer: a kitchen windowsill, a dining table, a hallway console, a bookshelf or the mantelpiece in a living room. The narrow neck gathers a handful of stems neatly, so a loose bunch of flowers or a few sprigs of foliage stand upright with little fuss. Left empty, it works just as well as a decorative piece in its own right, with the crab turned to face the room. Because the crab sits on one side only, it is happiest where it can be seen from the front, against a wall or at the back of a shelf.
The crab is painted by hand onto the ceramic, and you can see the brushwork in its orange legs and dark claw tips. To look after it, dust it with a soft dry cloth and wipe the glaze with a damp cloth when it needs it, then dry it off. Take a little care around the raised legs and claws as you clean. Pair it with a stack of books or a bowl of shells for an easy seaside corner, and it makes a cheerful present for anyone who loves the coast.

Frequently Asked
How big is the crab vase?
It stands 28.7cm tall and measures 19.4cm across and 19.2cm deep, a good size for a table, windowsill or mantelpiece.
What is the vase made of?
It is made from ceramic with a glossy glaze, and the orange crab on the front is painted by hand with dark brown claw tips.
What colour is the vase?
The vase is a soft periwinkle blue, with pale stripes around the neck, a deep blue band at the foot and an orange crab on the front.
Is the crab on both sides of the vase?
No, the raised crab sits on one side only and the back is plain ribbed blue, so it looks best placed with the crab facing into the room.
