Description

The Hampton is a 508mm semi-flush ceiling light from Hinkley, combining a rectangular antique nickel frame with three off-white linen drum shades and an etched acrylic diffuser at the base. Each of the three E27 fittings (bulbs sold separately) sits inside a fabric drum, with the acrylic lens at the bottom diffusing light downwards and outwards into the room.

Designed for rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4-2.7m where a full pendant drop would hang too low, the Hampton mounts 305mm from the ceiling, making it suitable for dining rooms, living rooms, hallway landings and lower-ceilinged bedrooms. The three-light configuration provides balanced ambient light across a 12-16m² space, with the off-white linen diffusing the light source to reduce glare while the etched acrylic at the base spreads light evenly below.

The antique nickel finish on the frame and canopy sits between brushed nickel and aged pewter in tone, with a subtle matte texture that minimises reflections. The rectangular mounting plate measures approximately 500mm across, so the fitting works best on ceilings where the wiring point can be centred within a defined space rather than off to one side. The off-white linen drum shades have a textured weave that shows some variation in fibre direction when backlit, giving the fitting a warmer, less industrial appearance than metal or glass alternatives.

What bulbs does the Hampton take?

The fitting has three E27 sockets, each rated to 60W maximum. Most users pair this with three warm-white LED bulbs between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K. Bulbs are sold separately.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 305mm drop from ceiling to base makes the Hampton suitable for ceiling heights of 2.4m or above. In rooms with 2.7m+ ceilings it works well over dining tables or kitchen islands where you need overhead light without a full pendant drop.

Is the Hampton dimmable?

Dimmer compatibility depends on the bulbs you fit. If you use dimmable LED E27 bulbs and a compatible LED dimmer switch, the fitting will dim. The fixture itself has no electronic components that would prevent dimming.

How is the linen shade cleaned?

The off-white linen drum shades collect dust over time. Use a soft brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner or a dry microfibre cloth. For marks, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water is acceptable, but do not soak the fabric and allow it to dry fully before switching the light back on.
