Description

Small, clear and easy to hide, this capsule LED takes the place of an older halogen pin lamp without changing the look of the fitting it sits in. It draws 4W and returns 450 lumens, which is a useful amount of light from something barely longer than a thumbnail. The colour is cool white: a neutral, daylight-leaning light that keeps whites looking white and edges looking sharp. Light comes off it all round rather than in one direction, so it fills a shade evenly. It is not dimmable, so pair it with a plain on-off switch.

G9 lamps of this sort belong in wall lights, small pendants, multi-arm ceiling fittings and cabinet lights, anywhere the lamp sits close to the shade and has to stay out of sight. We would choose cool white for kitchens, utility rooms and home offices, where warmer light can read as sleepy.
