Description

This is a compact G9 capsule with a clear body, so the light is unshaded and bright at close range. It draws 4W and gives 450 lumens at 3000K, a warm white that sits comfortably in living rooms and bedrooms rather than reading cool or clinical. Light spreads all round the capsule rather than firing in one direction, which suits small shades and open fittings. It is not dimmable, so it wants a plain on/off switch rather than a trailing edge dimmer.

We reach for this one when a wall light or a small pendant came fitted with halogen capsules and the running cost needs to come down without altering the look of the fitting. It suits multi-lamp chandeliers, bedside lamps with narrow shades, mirror lights and cabinet fittings, anywhere a G9 holder is used. Small and clear, it stays discreet behind a shade and tidy enough to sit on show where the fitting leaves it exposed. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, running on ordinary mains.

The capsule is a sealed unit, with the clear finish giving a crisp point of light rather than a frosted glow. It carries a three year warranty. Handle it by the base rather than gripping the clear section, switch off and let it cool before you touch it, and lift dust with a dry cloth only; no sprays or solvents near the pins. Where a fitting shows several capsules at once, we would order them at the same time so the warm white reads the same across the whole piece.
