Description

This is a small clear capsule lamp on G9 pins, putting out a cool white light at 4000K. It draws just 2.5W for 230 lumens, so it stands in for the old halogen capsules that used to sit in the same fittings and take many times the power for no more brightness. Light spreads all round the body rather than throwing forward in a beam, which is what the frosted shades, glass tubes and little crystal holders on G9 fittings are designed for. It is not a dimming lamp, so keep it on a plain on-off switch.

G9 holders turn up in more homes than people expect: multi-arm ceiling fittings, wall lights, slim pendants over a worktop, and the small decorative fittings that flank a mirror. The cooler white here reads crisp and slightly blue-leaning against warm white, which we find works well in kitchens, utility rooms, home offices and stairwells where you want light that feels awake rather than cosy. We would keep a couple spare in the drawer if a fitting holds several lamps, since matched colour across all of them matters more than the individual output.

The finish is clear, so the lamp shows as a bright small point behind glass rather than a soft glow, and it stays discreet in fittings where the lamp is partly on view. Keep it clean by switching the circuit off, waiting until the lamp is cool to hold, then running a dry cloth over the clear body; dust settling on a capsule this small dulls the light quickly. Do not use sprays or damp wipes near the pins. It carries a three year warranty.
