Description

This is a G9 capsule with a clear finish, slim enough to sit unnoticed in the small fittings that take it. It gives a warm white light at 2700K, the softer end of the scale, close to what an old halogen capsule gave, and around 250 lumens in all. Light leaves it all round rather than in a beam, so it fills a shade or a glass tube evenly. It is not dimmable, so it belongs on a plain switch rather than a dimmer circuit.

G9 capsules turn up everywhere: wall lights, small chandeliers, mirror lights over a dressing table, cooker hood strips and the slim glass tubes in a hallway fitting. We keep clear capsules for fittings where the bulb sits in view, since the capsule reads as part of the design rather than a blank white pellet. The warm tone suits sitting rooms, bedrooms and landings, and it works well behind ribbed or cut glass, where it throws a little sparkle. If you have a run of matching wall lights, buy a spare at the same time so the whole run stays even in colour as the years pass.

The clear body measures 13mm across, with G9 pins beneath. Hold it by the base rather than the clear section when you handle it, and let it cool before you touch it after a long evening. A dry cloth now and then is all it asks; dust shows more on a clear capsule than on an opal one. It carries a three year warranty.
