Description

The Haldmere semi-flush is a four light flush ceiling light, 705mm square and 325mm deep, with opal glass globes on short stems angling out from a central plate. Because it fixes close to the ceiling, it gives the look of a multi arm pendant in a room that cannot take a drop. The matt antique brass metalwork is warm and low in sheen, and the opal glass spreads the light evenly rather than pointing it in one direction. It weighs 2.8kg, which is modest for a fitting this wide.

Flush and semi-flush fittings earn their keep in bedrooms, landings, hallways and any room where the ceiling is under about 2.4 metres. This one is wide enough to light a whole bedroom on its own, and it clears the top of a door frame comfortably. We would also use it in a home office, where four diffused globes give better working light than a single central shade. It suits anyone who wants brass and glass without the hazard of a low hanging pendant.

The plate, stems and shade collars are metal in matt antique brass, with opal glass over each of the four E14 LED lamps of around 7W. It is dimmable with dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer. Once the lamps are cool, wipe the glass with a barely damp cloth and dry it, then dust the brass with a dry, soft cloth and keep polish and sprays away from the matt surface. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms and needs an earthed supply as a Class 1 fitting. It shares its shape with the Haldmere pendant range if you have taller ceilings elsewhere.
