Description

The Halbanne is a round ceiling light with a deep drum of grey wooden slats set edge-on around a single bulb, all fixed to a black steel canopy. It measures 50cm in diameter and 17.5cm high, so it spreads a generous shade across the ceiling while keeping close to it. The slats radiate from the centre like the gills of a mushroom, and their cut edges show a darker line that picks out each one. It takes one E27 bulb of up to 40W, which is not included, and carries an IP20 rating, which means it belongs indoors in dry rooms.

Because it is only 17.5cm high, it suits rooms where a hanging pendant would crowd the headroom: a hallway, a landing, a bedroom or a living room with a standard ceiling. The 50cm drum is wide enough to anchor a sitting room or dining area, and the soft grey wood with black detailing sits comfortably with natural oak, white walls and dark metal alike. If you want the warmth of timber overhead without the bulk of a solid shade, the open slats give you that, and the bulb sits at the centre, visible through the round opening at its base. That makes it a good choice for anyone who likes the look of a clear filament bulb.

The body and canopy are black steel and the shade is grey wood. There is no switch on the light itself: it is switched at the wall, and it runs on a 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains supply. As a wired-in mains light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. Packed, it weighs 2.522KG. When you choose a bulb, pick an E27 of no more than 40W; because it stays on view, a warm filament style suits the grey timber well.

Frequently Asked

Can the Halbanne go in a bathroom?

No. It carries an IP20 rating, so it belongs indoors in dry rooms such as a living room, bedroom, hallway or landing, away from water.

What size is the ceiling light?

It is 50cm in diameter and 17.5cm high, so it spreads wide across the ceiling while staying fairly low and compact.

Which bulb does it take?

It takes a single E27 screw bulb of up to 40W. The bulb is not included, so you can pick the style and colour of light you prefer.

Is there a switch on the light?

No, there is no switch on the fitting itself. It is switched at the wall, so you control it from your existing wall switch.

What materials are the body and shade?

The body and ceiling canopy are black steel, and the shade is made from slats of grey wood arranged around the central bulb.

Can I see the bulb when it is fitted?

Yes. The bulb sits at the centre of the slats and shows through the round opening at the base, so a decorative filament bulb is worth considering.
