Description

The Knightsbridge GU10 fire-rated tilt downlight combines a 15-degree tiltable lamp holder with a 30/60/90-minute fire rating tested to BS476 Part 21 and 23. The chrome-finished pressed steel and aluminium housing fits an 84mm ceiling cut-out and accepts standard GU10 halogen or LED lamps up to 50W and 60mm in length. A twist-and-lock front ring allows lamp changes without removing the fitting from the ceiling.

Designed for residential and commercial installation where Building Regulations Part B fire safety compliance is required, the downlight is insulation compatible and can be covered with loft insulation without overheating. The 15-degree tilt allows the beam to be directed towards artwork, architectural features, or the edge of a room rather than straight down. Spring clips fix the fitting into the ceiling void, suitable for ceiling thicknesses up to 30mm including plasterboard on joists, solid timber, web-joist and I-joist constructions.

The chrome finish on the visible front bezel provides a neutral metallic accent that pairs with both warm and cool-toned interiors. The die-cast construction gives the housing rigidity under heat cycles from halogen lamps, and the intumescent seal around the lamp aperture expands under fire conditions to maintain the ceiling's fire integrity. Electrical termination uses a 10A connector block inside a secure enclosure with cord grip, compatible with standard UK ring main wiring.

Frequently Asked

What does fire-rated mean for a downlight?

Fire-rated downlights contain an intumescent seal that expands under heat to close the lamp aperture during a fire, maintaining the ceiling's fire integrity. This fitting is tested to BS476 Part 21 and 23 and carries 30/60/90-minute ratings for solid timber ceilings, and 30-minute ratings for web-joist and I-joist constructions, making it compliant with Building Regulations Part B.

Can it be covered with loft insulation?

Yes. The fitting is insulation compatible and can be covered with loft insulation without overheating. The die-cast housing dissipates heat from the lamp effectively even when surrounded by insulation material.

What bulb does it take?

The downlight takes a standard GU10 bulb up to 50W and 60mm in length. GU10 halogen and LED lamps are both compatible. Bulbs are sold separately. Dimming depends on the specific bulb used — pair with a dimmable GU10 LED if dimming is required.

How is the tilt adjusted?

Once the fitting is installed in the ceiling, the lamp holder tilts up to 15 degrees within the housing. This allows the beam to be directed towards a wall, artwork, or architectural feature rather than straight down. The angle is set by hand after the lamp is fitted.
