Description

The Knightsbridge fire-rated fixed downlight accepts a GU10 halogen or LED bulb (sold separately) behind a brushed chrome bezel and is built to meet Building Regulations Part B fire safety requirements. The die-cast housing carries a 30/60/90 minute fire rating for solid timber joists, 30 minutes for web joists and 30 minutes for I-joists, tested to BS476 Part 21 and Part 23. The fitting is insulation compatible, meaning loft insulation can be laid directly over the fitting without creating a fire risk or overheating.

Designed for new-build and refurbishment projects where fire-rated ceilings are required by Building Control, the downlight installs into a 72mm ceiling cut-out and requires 105mm recessed depth above the ceiling. The front bezel projects 5mm below the ceiling line once fitted. Spring clips on the housing grip ceilings up to 30mm thick, and a twist-lock front ring allows the GU10 bulb to be replaced from below without removing the fitting from the ceiling. The IP20 rating limits the downlight to dry indoor locations only.

The brushed chrome finish provides a satin metallic appearance that reduces glare under direct light and pairs with both contemporary and traditional interiors. The fitting accepts GU10 halogen bulbs up to 50W or retrofit LED and CFL bulbs up to 60mm in length, giving flexibility to choose the light output, colour temperature and energy efficiency that suits the room. Electrical termination is via a 10A connector block inside the housing, with an integral cord grip securing the cable entry. The housing is constructed from pressed steel and aluminium for durability and heat dissipation.

What does fire-rated mean for a downlight?

A fire-rated downlight is designed to maintain the fire resistance of a ceiling when a hole is cut for the fitting. This downlight carries a 30/60/90 minute fire rating for solid timber joists, tested to BS476 Part 21 and Part 23, and meets Building Regulations Part B requirements. The rating means that in the event of a fire, the fitting will not allow flames or heat to pass through the ceiling void for the rated period.

Can insulation be laid over the fitting?

Yes. The downlight is insulation compatible, meaning loft insulation can be laid directly over the housing without creating a fire risk or causing the fitting to overheat. This is required by Building Regulations in most new-build and refurbishment projects.

What bulb does it take?
