Griffin 3 Light Semi-Flush Ceiling Light - Polished Chrome

The Griffin is a 422mm semi-flush ceiling light in polished chrome with three curved arms supporting a single etched white glass bowl. Each of the three arms extends from a stepped chrome ceiling plate, curves outward and then back inward to cradle the glass shade from underneath. The fitting drops 301mm from the ceiling, with the glass shade accounting for most of that projection. Three E27 bulbs (sold separately) sit inside the bowl, with the etched white glass diffusing the light evenly across the room.

Designed for rooms with ceiling heights between 2.3m and 2.8m where a fully flush ceiling light would not provide enough projection or character, but a full pendant would hang too low. The Griffin suits bedrooms, hallways, landings, and moderate-sized living rooms where ambient light is needed without dominating the visual space. The 422mm diameter gives the fitting enough presence for a 3m x 3m room without overwhelming narrower hallways or smaller bedrooms. The three-light configuration delivers brighter ambient output than single-bulb semi-flush fittings while spreading the light source for softer shadow patterns.

The polished chrome finish is a bright, highly reflective surface treatment that pairs with contemporary, Art Deco-inspired and modern classical interiors. The stepped canopy and curved arms give the fitting an architectural profile that adds structure to plain ceilings, while the etched glass softens the overall effect to prevent the chrome from reading as too industrial. The white-painted interior of the glass shade bounces light back through the etched surface for consistent diffusion rather than leaving visible bright spots where the bulbs sit.

What bulbs does it take?

The Griffin takes three E27 (Edison screw) bulbs, each with a maximum 60W rating. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED bulbs in the 8-12W range and 2700K-3000K colour temperature for ambient bedroom or hallway lighting.

What ceiling height is required?

The 301mm drop from ceiling to base of shade suits rooms with ceiling heights between 2.3m and 2.8m. In rooms with ceilings above 2.8m, a full pendant might provide better proportions; in rooms with ceilings below 2.3m, a flush ceiling light with minimal projection would be more appropriate.

Is it dimmable?

Dimming depends on the bulbs you install. If you fit dimmable LED or halogen E27 bulbs and pair them with a compatible dimmer switch, the fitting can be dimmed. The fitting itself has no electronic components that would prevent dimming.

How is the glass shade cleaned?

The etched glass shade can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth and a drop of glass cleaner. For deeper cleaning, the shade can be removed by unscrewing the finial at the base (switch off the power first) and washed gently in warm soapy water, then dried before re-fitting.
