The Grelbine is a solar floor lamp for the garden: a tall, slim square post in black that turns through a softly rounded corner into a flat head, so the whole light forms a clean L. It stands 80cm high, 20cm wide and 9cm long, and the body is aluminium and plastic, with a plastic shade in a satin finish. A solar panel lies across the top of the head and powers 18 integrated LEDs of 0.2W each. It is rated IP44, which means it is protected from splashing water, so it lives outdoors in a border, beside a path or along a drive.

Set one beside the front door, or a pair along the edge of a driveway or garden path, and they mark the way after dark with no mains supply to arrange. A motion sensor sits on the post just beneath the head, so the light comes on as someone walks past and stays dark the rest of the time. That makes it a good fit for a garden with no outdoor power nearby, for a side passage you only use now and again, and for anyone who would rather not leave a light burning all night. By day the plain black post sits quietly among planting, gravel or paving.

The body combines aluminium and plastic, and aluminium is a metal that does not rust, which counts for a light that spends its life in the garden. The post stands on a ground spike at its foot, and the installation instructions come as a download.
