Description
The Granvena PIR Sensor is a compact, round motion sensor in black, with a white domed lens at its centre. Body and lens are both plastic, and the whole unit is 9cm across and stands 5.5cm proud of the wall, small enough to sit quietly beside a door or under the eaves. PIR stands for passive infrared: the sensor responds to the warmth of a person or animal moving across its view, rather than sending out a beam of its own. It is rated IP44, which means it is protected from splashing water, so it can live outdoors on a house wall through wet weather.
Its switch is the motion sensor itself, so it answers movement rather than a hand reaching for a light switch. Outdoors, that suits a front door, a porch, a side passage, a driveway or a garden wall, anywhere you want movement picked up as you arrive with your hands full. The black body blends with dark window frames, gutters and modern exterior fittings, and the white lens is the only part that catches the eye. Because it carries IP44, it may also suit a bathroom, where a qualified electrician will confirm the right zone. Indoors, a hallway, a landing or a utility room are natural spots.
A fine seam runs around the edge of the body, and the white lens is faceted into many small segments, which is how a PIR lens works: each facet gathers a slice of the view and focuses it onto the sensing element. Plastic does not rust, which suits a sensor that spends its life outdoors. It weighs 0.162KG packed, and the installation instructions come as a download, so whoever fits it has the details to hand.
