The Grampian is a 790mm pedestal lantern with a cast aluminium frame finished in matt black, clear glass panels on four sides, and a single E27 socket inside the lantern housing. The Victorian-style hexagonal top and decorative cast brackets at the corners give the fitting a period character that suits traditional properties, cottage gardens, and entrances to period homes.

Designed for installation on gate pillars, driveway posts, low walls and front garden entrances, the Grampian sits on a square base measuring 290mm wide, providing a stable platform for brick pillar mounting or atop rendered walls. The IP44 rating protects against water splashes from all directions and dust ingress, making it suitable for fully exposed outdoor positions in UK weather. The E27 socket accepts standard Edison screw bulbs up to 60W (sold separately), allowing choice between LED, halogen or filament bulbs depending on the desired light output and colour temperature.

The cast aluminium construction resists corrosion and handles thermal expansion better than pressed steel equivalents, with the matt black powder-coated finish providing UV resistance and long-term colour stability. The clear glass panels allow unfiltered light distribution in a 360-degree pattern, useful for lighting driveways, pathways and entrance areas where spread is more important than directed beam control. The decorative finial at the apex and the curved support bracket beneath the lantern housing are cast as part of the frame rather than welded additions, giving a more cohesive period appearance.

What bulb does the Grampian take?

The lantern takes a standard E27 Edison screw bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K for outdoor pathway and driveway lighting, or a clear filament-style LED for a period look through the glass panels.

Can it be mounted on a brick pillar?

Yes. The 290mm square base is designed for mounting on top of gate pillars, brick posts, and rendered wall piers. The lantern requires an electrical cable run through the pillar or post, with the connection made inside the base before the lantern is secured to the pillar top with screws through the base plate.

Is the IP44 rating sufficient for fully exposed positions?

IP44 provides protection against water splashes from any direction and dust ingress, which is sufficient for pillar-mounted outdoor lanterns in UK weather. It is not waterproof to submersion or high-pressure jets, but handles rain, snow and typical driveway/garden exposure without issue.

What installation depth is needed?

The base plate is approximately 100mm deep including the decorative support bracket beneath the lantern housing. When mounting on a pillar, ensure the pillar top has a flat surface of at least 290mm square and the cable entry point is positioned to align with the central void in the base.
