The Gosmelle is a slim, round LED downlight in white, 16cm across and just 2.8cm deep. It pairs a white steel body with a white plastic diffuser that spreads the light into an even, opal glow. The LEDs are integrated into the fitting, so there is no separate bulb to buy. It draws 11W and gives 1,350 lumens, a generous output for such a low profile, at a colour temperature of 3000K, which reads as warm light: the soft, slightly golden tone that feels most at home in living spaces. It is rated IP20, which settles where it can go: indoors, in rooms that stay dry, and away from bathrooms, showers and anything outdoors.

Because it sits on the surface of the ceiling rather than being set into it, it keeps a neat, low line in hallways, landings, bedrooms, studies and cloakrooms. White is the easiest finish to live with overhead, blending into a painted white ceiling so the light does the work rather than the fitting. The warm white tone makes a hallway feel welcoming as you come through the door, and one light gives a small room a good, even wash of light.
