Description

The Gorsewell semi-flush gathers six ribbed and frosted glass shades into a cluster on a satin brass frame, measuring 655mm wide, 595mm deep and 345mm from the ceiling. The ribbing runs down each shade and the frosting takes the edge off the light, so you get texture and sparkle without a bare bulb in view. Set as a cluster rather than a flat ring, this flush ceiling light has real depth without needing a long drop. It weighs 2.2kg, which is modest for a fitting with six shades on it.

Cluster semi-flush fittings are useful where you want the look of a chandelier with the clearance of a flush ceiling light, so bedrooms, landings, hallways and rooms with ceilings under about 2.4 metres all suit it. We would use it as the main light in a bedroom or a small living room, since it is wide enough for both. It suits anyone building a brass scheme who needs the fitting to stay close to the ceiling, and it works over a dining table in a low room.

The frame is metal in satin brass, a softer sheen than polished, with six ribbed and frosted glass shades over G9 LED lamps of around 3W each. It is not dimmable, so wire it to a standard switch. Wipe the glass with a barely damp cloth once cool, working along the ribs where dust collects, and dust the brass with a dry, soft cloth. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms, and as a Class 2 fitting it is double insulated and needs no earth. Keep the wall lighting plain so the Gorsewell cluster stays the main event in the room.
