Description
This lidded ceramic biscuit barrel takes the form of a gingerbread nutcracker, finished in warm gingerbread brown with white icing details. He wears a textured coat trimmed with piped white scrolls, a brown belt with a red buckle and white toggles down the front, with glossy brown boots at his feet. His face has rosy cheeks, a bold black moustache, a curled white beard and soft white hair, and his crown forms the lid: a gingerbread band topped with white icing, tiny coloured sprinkles and a red knob to lift it by.
He stands 26cm tall, 15cm wide and 13cm deep, a comfortable size for a kitchen worktop, a dresser shelf or the end of a festive table, where he looks after the biscuits without crowding the space. Through the Christmas season he makes a cheerful home for festive biscuits and homemade gingerbread, and he brings a smile to anyone reaching for a treat with their morning coffee or an afternoon cup of tea. We think he makes a lovely Christmas gift as well, one that comes out of the cupboard every December and quickly becomes part of how the house gets ready for the holidays.
The barrel is ceramic with a glossy finish, and the raised detail of the coat, beard, hair and crown gives him plenty of character. The crown lid lifts off to reveal a wide opening at the top of his head, so filling him up and reaching in for a biscuit are both easy. To keep him looking his best, wipe the outside with a soft damp cloth and dry it straight away, and lift the lid by its knob with a little care, as ceramic can chip if knocked. For a gift with a little extra, fill him with homemade biscuits before wrapping, or set him out on the table when guests arrive over Christmas.
