Description

This skinny wooden plaque carries one of the kindest lines we know: Friends are the FLOWERS in Life's GARDEN. The word Friends is written large in a flowing black script, with the rest of the line set in neat lettering beside it. The words sit on a pale cream face edged with soft watercolour flowers in blush pink, peach, lilac blue and buttery yellow, with a little bee tucked among the blooms at one end. The edges and the plain back are finished in a soft yellow that frames the print like a ribbon of sunshine. It is a slim rectangle of wood, 20cm wide, 4cm high and 1cm deep, so it fits the smallest of spaces.

Because it is so slim, it is happy on a narrow shelf, a windowsill, a bedside table, a desk or along the mantelpiece. It stands upright on its long edge, where its words read at a glance. It brings a gentle garden feel to a hallway, a kitchen dresser or a reading corner. As a gift it tells someone how much they mean to you without the need for a long card. We think it makes a lovely surprise for a best friend, a friend who has seen you through a busy year or a friend you have known since school. It is also a thoughtful Mother's Day gift for a mum who has always been a friend too.

The plaque is made from wood. Its face is decorated with the watercolour flowers and lettering, and its edges and back are finished in pale yellow. The plain back looks tidy from every side. To keep it fresh, dust it with a soft dry cloth and keep it away from water and damp. For gifting, tuck it in beside a bunch of real flowers so the words and the blooms tell the same story.
