Description
The Hinkley Freeport is a 301mm white outdoor wall lantern built around a cylindrical cage housing clear seeded glass panels. The lantern takes a single E27 bulb up to 40W (sold separately) and carries an IP44 rating for protection against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for covered porches, house entrances and recessed exterior wall positions.
Designed for residential pathways, front door surrounds and side entrances, the Freeport projects 232mm from the wall once fitted, giving the lantern clearance over most door frames and window sills. The 207mm diameter suits medium-sized porch areas and double-width entrance doors without overwhelming smaller single-door frames. The white finish is a powder-coated aluminium that resists corrosion in UK coastal and high-humidity environments.
The seeded glass creates a bubble-textured surface that diffuses the light source while maintaining visibility of the bulb filament or LED array inside, depending on which bulb is fitted. The horizontal cage bars divide the glass into three vertical bands, giving the lantern a nautical or coastal appearance that pairs with both traditional rendered cottages and modern rendered new-builds. The white finish works with neutral, coastal and Scandi-style exteriors.
Hinkley backs the Freeport with a 5-year guarantee covering manufacturing defects and finish degradation under normal outdoor use. The fitting mounts to a standard UK exterior back box via a rectangular wall plate fixed with two screws, with the cable entry concealed behind the plate once installed.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP44 rating mean for installation?
IP44 protects against splashing water from any direction, so the lantern is suitable for covered porches, recessed doorways and wall positions under eaves. It is not rated for full exposure to driving rain or submersion, so avoid fully exposed gable-end walls without overhead cover.
What bulb should I use?
The Freeport takes a standard E27 bulb up to 40W. Most users pair it with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to complement the seeded glass and nautical styling. Clear glass LED filament bulbs show through the seeded panels more visibly than frosted bulbs.
How far does it stick out from the wall?
The lantern projects 232mm from the wall once fitted. This gives clearance over most door frames and window sills but may obstruct narrow pathways or tight porch areas where less than 300mm clearance is available.
Can it be fitted to rendered or brick walls?
Yes. The rectangular wall plate fixes to a standard UK exterior back box, which can be surface-mounted or recessed into brick, block, render or timber cladding. The cable entry is concealed behind the plate once the lantern is installed.
