Description
The Franceasi is a 368mm outdoor wall lantern with metalwork modelled on European castle-window tracery, finished in olde bronze and fitted with amber-tinted glass panels. A single E27 bulb (sold separately) sits behind the glass, casting light through the amber tint and the open tracery pattern. The IP44 rating protects against rain splashes from any direction, making the fitting suitable for exposed exterior walls.
Designed for porches, entrance alcoves, courtyard walls and garage sides, the Franceasi projects 184mm from the wall on a rectangular backplate. The 140mm width keeps the lantern proportioned for narrower wall sections without overwhelming doorways or windows. The amber glass diffuses the light source while allowing the tracery metalwork to cast shadow patterns onto adjacent brickwork or render when lit.
The olde bronze finish is a dark bronze patina with lighter bronze highlights rubbed through on the raised edges of the tracery and the stepped canopy. This gives the fitting a weathered, aged appearance that suits period properties, barn conversions and stone-built homes. The metal frame is powder-coated steel, and the glass panels are held in place by a hinged door that opens for bulb changes without removing the lantern from the wall.
Kichler produces the Franceasi in two heights — this is the small version at 368mm. A taller variant is also available in the same finish. The 3-year guarantee covers manufacturing defects in the metalwork and glass but does not cover corrosion from coastal salt exposure or damage from incorrect installation.

Frequently Asked
Is the Franceasi suitable for a fully exposed wall?
The IP44 rating protects against rain splashes from any direction, so the lantern can be fitted to walls without overhead shelter. However, IP44 is not waterproof — avoid mounting the lantern where it will be submerged or hosed directly. Coastal locations with salt spray may accelerate corrosion of the bronze finish over time.
What bulb should I use?
The fitting takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to complement the amber glass and aged bronze finish. Clear or gold-tinted filament bulbs work well with the open tracery design.
How is the bulb changed?
The front glass panel is hinged and held closed by a small latch. Open the latch, swing the door outward, change the bulb, then close and latch the door. There is no need to remove the lantern from the wall or disconnect the wiring.
What is the difference between the small and standard Franceasi?
The small version measures 368mm high, while the standard version is taller. Both share the same width, projection and tracery design, differing only in vertical scale. Use the small version on narrower wall sections or where a more compact fitting is needed.
