Foxleigh Table Lamp - Turquoise Gold

The Foxleigh sets a turquoise glass body beneath a gold shade, standing 530mm tall with a shade 360mm across. Coloured glass does something a metal or ceramic base cannot: with the lamp on, light catches in the body itself, so the base reads as part of the light rather than just a support for it. It takes one 10W E27 LED lamp. At 3.6kg this is a solid table lamp, weighty enough for a hall console where a lighter one would get knocked about, and it is rated IP44 against splashing water.

Turquoise wants a quiet background, so we would place the Foxleigh against a neutral wall, on dark wood, or on a bedside table in a room that already has one strong colour and needs a second point of interest rather than a third. It gives a warm pool of light suited to evening use rather than close task work. The gold shade pushes light down onto the surface below and up onto the wall behind, which is why a single lamp can lift a whole corner. Keep it on a dry surface even with the IP44 rating in its favour.

The base is glass in turquoise and the shade is metal finished in gold, and construction is Class 2 and double insulated. Clean the glass with a soft cloth, barely damp if there are marks, and dry it before switching back on. Keep abrasive creams and solvents away from both the glass and the gold. Let the lamp cool before changing it, and always lift the lamp by its base rather than by the shade. The Foxleigh is also made with a cobalt glass body under the same gold shade, and the two work as a pair on a long sideboard where matching exactly would be dull.

What is the base made of?

Glass, in turquoise, with a metal shade finished in gold. The glass is what gives the lamp its weight and its glow once the light is on.

How do I clean coloured glass?

A soft dry cloth for dust, and a barely damp one for finger marks, dried straight away. Skip solvents and abrasive creams, which can haze the surface.

Which bulb does it use?

One 10W E27 LED lamp. E27 is the standard larger screw fitting, so replacements are easy to find anywhere.

Can it be dimmed?

No, this one is not dimmable. It runs at a set level from a standard switch or socket, so add a dimmable fitting elsewhere if you want to vary the room.
