Description

The Flenane is a compact flush ceiling light: a rounded steel dome in black, lined with copper, sitting close to the ceiling on a short round canopy. It stands 17.5cm tall and measures 28cm across, so it keeps plenty of headroom in rooms where a hanging pendant would feel low. It takes an E27 bulb of up to 40W, and the bulb is not included, so you choose the one you like. It is rated IP20, which settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms.

We like it for hallways, landings, bedrooms, studies and smaller living rooms, anywhere you want a ceiling light with real character that does not take over the space. The black dome looks crisp and graphic against a pale ceiling, while the copper lining catches the light and sends a warm glow back down into the room. Because the bulb sits exposed inside the dome, a decorative filament bulb suits it well, and at 28cm across, a pair of them works happily along a corridor or over a dining table.

The body is steel, black over the dome and copper inside it, and steel is a strong, rigid metal, so the dome holds its rounded shape well. There is no switch on the fitting itself; it is switched at the wall and runs on a 220-240V, 50/60Hz supply. Packed, it weighs 1.241KG. As a mains light wired into the ceiling, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. When you choose your bulb, keep to an E27 cap and no more than 40W, and pick a warm tone if you want the copper lining to glow at its richest.
