Description

The Knightsbridge VFCFW is a fixed GU10 fire-rated downlight with a white pressed-steel bezel and a 65mm ceiling cut-out diameter. The fitting carries fire ratings of 30/60/90 minutes for solid timber joists, 30 minutes for web-joists, and 30 minutes for I-joists (Staircraft), making it suitable for installation in fire-separation ceilings where Building Regulations require maintained fire integrity. The GU10 lamp holder accepts any standard halogen or LED GU10 bulb up to 35W (lamp sold separately).

Designed for residential and commercial installation where fixed downlighting is needed in fire-rated ceilings, the fitting uses push-fit terminals for loop-in/loop-out wiring without the need for a terminal block. The fast-fix spring clips secure the downlight into the ceiling void with one-handed installation. The fixed bezel sits flush to the ceiling surface with a 4mm projection and an 85mm outer diameter, giving a discreet profile once fitted. When used with a 6W LED GU10 or lower, the fitting is IC-rated, meaning it can be installed in contact with thermal insulation without causing overheating.

The white finish blends into white or off-white ceilings, making the fitting almost invisible when the lamp is off. The IP20 rating suits dry indoor environments including living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, offices and commercial spaces, but not bathrooms or kitchens where steam or water spray is present. The minimum void depth required above the ceiling is 150mm to accommodate the 100mm recessed body and the lamp fitting. Dimming capability depends on the GU10 lamp chosen — dimmable LED GU10 lamps allow the fitting to be controlled by a compatible dimmer switch.

Fire-rated downlights are tested to maintain fire integrity through a ceiling for a specified duration. This fitting carries 30/60/90 minute ratings for solid timber joists, 30 minutes for web-joists, and 30 minutes for I-joists. Building Regulations often require fire-rated fittings in ceilings that separate different floors or protect escape routes.

What ceiling void depth is needed?

A minimum 150mm void depth above the ceiling surface is required. The fitting itself recesses 100mm into the void, and the GU10 lamp adds further depth depending on the specific bulb used.

Is it dimmable?

Dimming depends on the GU10 lamp you fit. Use a dimmable LED GU10 with a compatible LED dimmer switch to achieve dimming. Non-dimmable GU10 lamps will not dim and may flicker or fail if used with a dimmer.

Can it be installed in contact with insulation?

Yes, when used with a 6W LED GU10 lamp or lower. At this wattage the fitting is IC-rated, meaning it can be covered by thermal insulation without overheating. Using a higher-wattage lamp voids the IC rating and requires clearance from insulation.
