Description

The Knightsbridge FireNova is an 85mm fire-rated fixed downlight with an open-back design built around a pressed steel housing and magnetic matt white bezel. The open-back construction removes the need for a sealed can, allowing heat from the GU10 bulb (sold separately, up to 7W) to dissipate directly into the ceiling void, reducing operating temperature and extending bulb life. The downlight is rated IP65 from below and IP20 from above, making it suitable for bathrooms, kitchens and other moisture-prone areas.

Designed for new-build and retrofit installation into plasterboard ceilings with a minimum 120mm void depth, the FireNova uses tool-free push-fit terminals for mains connection and loop-in/loop-out wiring to daisy-chain multiple fittings from a single feed. The 72mm cut-out requires a standard hole saw and the fitting is held in place by fold-out spring clips that grip the ceiling from above. Fire resistance is tested to 30/60/90 minutes on solid wood joists and 30 minutes on metal web and I-joists, meeting UK Building Regulations for fire compartmentation in domestic and light commercial applications.

The magnetic bezel system allows the matt white bezel to be removed and replaced with alternative finishes (sold separately) without re-wiring or removing the fitting from the ceiling. An optional insulation bridge accessory (sold separately) allows the downlight to be covered with solid insulation without compromising fire rating or overheating. The 3mm projection from the ceiling gives a low-profile finish that suits low-ceiling rooms and minimal-detail contemporary interiors. The 5-year guarantee covers the fitting itself; GU10 bulbs are warranted separately by their manufacturer.

The FireNova is tested to 30/60/90 minutes fire resistance on solid wood joists and 30 minutes on metal web and I-joists. This meets UK Building Regulations for domestic and light commercial ceiling fire compartmentation. The rating applies when installed correctly with the appropriate ceiling construction.

Can it be covered with insulation?

An optional insulation bridge accessory (sold separately) allows the downlight to be covered with solid insulation without compromising the fire rating or causing overheating. Without this accessory, maintain clearance around the fitting per the installation instructions.

Is it suitable for bathroom zones?

The IP65 rating from below makes the FireNova suitable for bathroom zones 1 and 2 (areas around baths and showers where water spray is possible). IP20 from above means the ceiling void must be dry. Always check that the specific zone requirements are met before installation.

Are the bezels interchangeable?
