Description

The Knightsbridge fire-rated tilt downlight is a GU10 recessed fitting with a 15° tilt mechanism housed in a brushed chrome bezel. The die-cast housing is certified to BS476 Parts 21 and 23, providing 30/60/90-minute fire protection on solid timber joists, 30 minutes on web-joist and 30 minutes on I-joist constructions. The tilt mechanism allows the beam to be angled after installation to direct light onto artwork, shelving or architectural features rather than straight down.

Designed for residential and commercial ceilings up to 30mm thick, the fitting accepts any standard GU10 halogen, LED or CFL lamp up to 60mm in length and 50W output. The front bezel uses a twist-and-lock ring that releases without tools, allowing lamp changes without removing the fitting from the ceiling void. The insulation-compatible housing can be covered directly with loft insulation without creating a fire risk or overheating, making it suitable for Building Regulations Part L compliance in new-build and retrofit projects.

The brushed chrome finish provides a neutral metallic tone that pairs with both warm and cool interior schemes. The 84mm cut-out diameter and 105mm recessed depth fit standard ceiling voids without requiring oversized holes or excessive clearance above the plasterboard. Electrical connection is via a 10A connector block inside a secure enclosure with a cord grip, eliminating the need for junction boxes in most installations. Dimming capability depends on the chosen GU10 lamp — most LED GU10s are compatible with trailing-edge dimmers.

What does fire-rated mean for a downlight?

Fire-rated downlights are tested to BS476 standards and certified to maintain the fire resistance of the ceiling they're installed into. This fitting provides 30, 60 or 90 minutes of protection on solid timber joists, and 30 minutes on web-joist and I-joist constructions. The intumescent seal expands under heat to close the aperture and prevent fire spread through the ceiling void.

Can I cover this with loft insulation?

Yes. The fitting is insulation-compatible and can be covered directly with loft insulation without creating a fire risk or causing the lamp to overheat. This is required for Building Regulations Part L compliance in many new-build and conversion projects.

How do I change the lamp?

The brushed chrome front bezel twists anti-clockwise to release, allowing the GU10 lamp to be accessed and replaced without removing the fitting from the ceiling. Once the new lamp is fitted, the bezel twists back into the locked position.

Is it dimmable?

Dimming capability depends on the GU10 lamp you install. Most LED GU10 lamps are compatible with trailing-edge dimmers, but check the lamp packaging or specifications before pairing with a dimmer switch.
