Description
The Knightsbridge fire-rated tilt downlight is a recessed GU10 fitting built for ceiling installations where fire safety compliance is required. The housing combines pressed steel and aluminium construction with intumescent seals tested to BS476 Part 21 & 23, providing 30/60/90 minute fire rating in solid timber ceilings and 30 minute rating in web-joist and I-joist constructions. The white front bezel tilts up to 15 degrees from vertical, allowing the GU10 lamp to be angled towards walls, artwork or seating positions rather than firing straight down.
Designed for residential refurbishment, new builds under Building Regulations Part B, and commercial installations needing fire compartmentalisation, the downlight fits an 84mm ceiling cut-out with spring clip fixings that accommodate ceiling thicknesses up to 30mm. The insulation-compatible housing allows loft insulation to be pushed against the rear without overheating risk. Electrical termination uses a 10A connector block inside a secure enclosure with cord grip, compatible with standard fixed wiring.
The twist-and-lock front ring allows GU10 lamps to be changed without removing the entire fitting from the ceiling. The housing accepts standard GU10 halogen lamps up to 50W and retrofit LED or CFL lamps up to 60mm in length, making it compatible with most current GU10 LED bulbs rated between 3-7W. Dimming capability depends on the lamp fitted — most GU10 LED lamps now support standard phase-dimming when paired with LED-compatible dimmers.
The white powder-coat finish on the bezel blends into white or off-white ceilings without creating a visual interruption. The 5mm projection from ceiling to bezel face keeps the fitting low-profile once installed. The IP20 rating makes the downlight suitable for dry interior spaces including living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and offices, but not bathrooms or outdoor covered areas which require IP44 or higher.

Frequently Asked
What fire rating does this downlight carry?
The fitting is tested to BS476 Part 21 & 23 and provides 30/60/90 minute fire rating in solid timber ceilings, 30 minute rating in web-joist constructions, and 30 minute rating in I-joist (Staircraft) ceilings. It complies with Building Regulations Part B (Fire Safety) for UK installations.
Can insulation touch the housing?
Yes. The housing is insulation-compatible, meaning loft insulation can be pushed against the rear and sides without creating overheating or fire risk. This is essential for maintaining thermal performance in insulated ceilings.
What GU10 bulbs fit this downlight?
The fitting accepts standard GU10 halogen lamps up to 50W and retrofit GU10 LED or CFL lamps up to 60mm in length. Most current GU10 LED bulbs (typically 3-7W) fit comfortably within the 60mm length limit.
Is it dimmable?
Dimming depends on the GU10 lamp fitted. If you install a dimmable GU10 LED lamp and pair it with an LED-compatible dimmer, the fitting will dim. The housing itself does not restrict dimming — it's purely lamp-dependent.
